SolutionArchitecture
For the print preview of BEx Web Applications, PDF (Portable Document Format), PS(PostScript), or PCL (Printer Control Language) is generated. PDF is generated using Adobe Document Services (ADS). Adobe Document Services are installed on a J2EE Engine and can be used with a Web Service. As a rule, Adobe Document Services are installed on the same J2EE Engine as the portal (usage type EP) see Note 917950.
The BEx Web Runtime in SAP NetWeaver 2004s BI uses this Web Service to generate PDF, PS, or PCL with Adobe Document Services.
Configuration of Adobe Document ServicesThe BEx Web Runtime in SAP NetWeaver 2004s BI uses this Web Service to generate PDF, PS, or PCL with Adobe Document Services.
Check that the configuration of Adobe Document Services is correct using the Configuration Guide for Adobe Document Services on the SAP Service Marketplace:

You can test the configuration of Adobe Document Services as follows:
- 1. Open the following URL in a Web browser:
- 2. http://<server>:<port>/AdobeDocumentServices/Config
- 3. An overview page of the Adobe Document Service is displayed.
- 4. Select the Test link in the header line.
- 5. Select rpData (test.types ...) under Operations.
- 6. Press the Send button (without entering any parameters).
- 7. Enter your user name and password (copy the user and the password from the Web Service configuration; see below).
If the installation and configuration are correct, the version number appears as a result in the Response field.
If the version number does not appear, check the installation and configuration. If the problem persists, enter a problem message with the component BC-SRV-FP.

BI uses a Web Service to access Adobe Document Services. Check the configuration of the Web Service client proxy on the J2EE Engine:

- com.sap.tc.webdynpro.adsproxy.AdsProxy*ConfigPort_Document

- Select sap.com/tc~wd~pdfobject.
- Select the Stop Application switch.
- Select the Start Application switch.
Check the timeout period in accordance with Note 934275.
Limitation with Support Package Stack 6
The following limitation applies to NW 2004s BI Support Package Stack 6 (SPS6): A PDF with more than approx. 100 pages cannot be generated. With Support Package Stack 7 (SPS7), larger reports can also be generated.
To provide information in advance, the notes mentioned above may be available before the Support Packages are released. The notes provide information on the patch name.
Note that ABAP and JAVA Support Packages must be imported at the same time (see Note 873996).
