Solution
Note: SAP Netweaver '04 SR1 and SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7 based systems are supported on Windows Server 2008 (R2) only for upgrade purposes.

I Required CDs or DVDs for SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver '04 SR1 (Kernel 6.40):

The following CDs or DVDs for your SAP product are available for download on SAP Service Marketplace.

SAPinst 640 SR1 Installation Master DVD for Oracle 11.2 (#51043312). This installation Master DVD supports the installation of the following SAP products with Oracle 11.2:

SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7 Extension Set 2 SR1

SAP NetWeaver '04 SR1

SAP ERP 2004 SR1

SAP SCM 4.1

SAP SRM 4.0 SR1

Note: You cannot install an SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7 Extension Set 1 SR1 system, but have to use the "System Copy" option of the SAP NetWeaver '04 SR1 Installation Master DVD

Oracle RDBMS 11.2 Windows (#51038964) (X86_64)) including Oracle Failsafe Version 3.4.2 Oracle Failsafe Version 3.4.2. The DVD is also available at http://service.sap.com/swcenter-3pmain - Oracle - Oracle Software 11.2 64 Bit (in the right frame) - Installation - Windows Server - Oracle

New 640 EXT2 Kernel DVD (#51040088). After finishing the installation/system copy, you need to apply patch level 375 or higher before using the system.

Oracle 10.2.0.4 Client Software DVD (#51039412). The latest Oracle Client DVD is always available at http://service.sap.com/swcenter-3pmain - Oracle - Oracle Software 10.2 64 Bit (in the right frame) - Installation - Windows Server - Oracle

The following CD or DVD has to be created manually:

Modified 640 Patch Collection Java DVD
You have to modify the Java DVD manually to use executables during the system copy or installation procedure for Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2, as described in SAP note 1487596.

II Upgrade:

To perform a homogeneous system copy with the backup/restore method, you need to upgrade your source database to Oracle 11.2. For more information, see the Windows Oracle upgrade guide "Upgrade to Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2): Windows".

III New Installation / System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver '04 SR1 (Kernel 6.40):

1 General
Use the installation guide for the SAP system that you want to install. Currently the source database must have the same release number as the target database (11.2.0).

Note the following changes to the installation procedure described in the guide:
Before you start SAPinst, you have to install the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 SP1 Runtime libaries. For more information, see SAP Note 684106.

Do not use the chapters in the installation guides for your SAP system for the:

- installation of the Oracle database software,
- installation of the Oracle Fail Safe software,
- conversion a fail safe database.

Instead, replace them with the relevant chapters from the Windows Oracle upgrade guide "Upgrade to Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2): Windows". The upgrade guide is available at: http://service.sap.com/instguides -> Database Upgrades - Oracle

You do no longer have to install the Oracle client software with the Oracle Universal Installer. Oracle has released the Oracle Instant Client. As of Oracle 10g, the required set of DLLs is copied to the SAP executables directory and automatically distributed to the SAP ABAP dialog instances with the sapcpe replication mechanism.

2 Installation Issues

32 bit platforms: Parameter "Instance RAM" must not exceed 1.7 GB
SAPinst takes by default 50% of physical RAM for the database instance.
If you install your SAP system with Oracle database on a 32 bit
platform, make sure that you do not enter a value exceeding 1.7 GB for the "Instance RAM" parameter. Otherwise error ORA-27102 occurs during the "Create database" step.
Adjust the default value of the "Instance RAM" parameter to the
appropriate value listed in SAP Note 743328.
