Reason and Prerequisites
This SAP Note applies to the classic RFC library librfc32.dll as it is used by SAP GUI for Window and SAP Java Connector (JCo) among others.
Solution
SAP GUI for Windows installs the classic RFC library in the system directory and creates a relevant registry key as follows:
{windows-dir}\system32 (therefore, for standard installations, this is c:\windows\system32).
{windows-dir}\SysWOW64. For standard installations, the complete path is therefore c:\windows\SysWOW64.
Before you replace the RFC library, you must stop all applications that use it. You can now replace the RFC library by copying the new version into the relevant system directory. You can delete or rename the old version. You no longer need to perform a registration using regsvr32. On Windows, the system first searches for the RFC library in the installation directory of the RFC program. If the RFC library is located in the program directory, exchanging the RFC library in the system directory has no effect. We therefore recommend that you delete all copies of the RFC library that are located outside the system directory.
