Q: Where in the ASAP methodology can I find the WBS?

The ASAP 8 WBS Dictionary accelerator is stored on the node 1.5 Scope Statement as the 'ASAP 8 WBS Dictionary Template'.

Q: I've heard that ASAP now contains specific Design Thinking use cases as guides. Where can I find them in the methodology?

Refer to the picture below for more details about the locations and use cases for Design Thinking wokshops in the context of Standard and Agile ASAP projects.

Q: Agile ASAP - Is there a recommended duration for the sprint / iteration?

In general the sprints are between 2 and 4 weeks of duration. Consistently through out the project - once the team picks duration for their sprints they stick with it. In organizations that already have regular cadence (takt) it is recommended that the project is synchronized with the overall takt. In organizations that do not have established takt the project team sets the sprint duration and uses it consistently from sprint to sprint.

Q: Agile ASAP - how do I deal with deliverables that are longer that the sprint duration?

The team needs to split the larger requirements into smaller user stories that can be delivered within a sprint. General rule of thumb in Agile projects is that the requirement should not be bigger than 50% of the duration of the sprint. This way team has ability to show progress during the sprint and ensure that the requiremnt is getting realized.

Q: Agile ASAP - I understand that the sprints are implementing bite-size requirements, does the blueprinting need to be comprehensive and include full design work?

No. The blueprinting needs to collect the requirments on the level that is sufficient for the project team to understand the requirement, estimate it and implement it in the sprint. It is not the objective of the lean blueprint to detail the technical and functional implementation. This is one reason why the Blueprint phase in Agile implementation is referred to as a Lean Blueprint (in A2O projects as Delta Scoping)

Q: Agile ASAP - What are the key criteria to determine whether to use Traditional or Agile approach?

In general both approaches are suitable to implementation of SAP solutions. The preferred approach is determined by assessing the organizational fit, project team fit, project manager fit, solution fit and stakeholder expectations fit. Following picture shows conditions that challenge agile and overview of benefits of Agile.
Note that conditions that challenge agile adoption are not necessarily show stopper; agile teams need to adjust the approach to work around the issue/limitation - for example in regulated environments the team needs to include the documentation requirements as part of the definition of Done.

SPAU and SPDD

When you apply a package, a large number of objects are changed.

If you have applied any OSS notes to objects in your system, the hot package may overwrite these objects.

SPDD is used to identify dictionary objects

and

SPAU (repository objects), will identify any objects where the hot package is overwriting changes you have made through OSS notes.

You must check all objects identified in SPAU and decide whether you need to reapply the OSS note or reset the code to the original SAP Code.

If, for instance, you are applying hot package 34, SPAU identifies an object where you have applied an OSS note. You must check the OSSs note and see if SAP have fixed that note in a hot package.

If the OSS note has been fixed in hot package 34, then you should reset the object to its original source code. This means that there is no repair flag set against this object again and it is now SAP standard code.

If, however, the object is not fixed until hot package 38, or there is no fix available you have to reapply the OSS note, otherwise users will encounter the problems they had before the note was applied.

You must transport all reapplied notes and Reset to SAP Standard objects after you apply your hot package to your QAS and PRD systems.

What objects will come in SPAU and SPDD?
All the objects which are modified, after tansporting to the current system, will be listed in SPAU and SPDD. SPDD contains the list of all modified Data Dictionary objects, like tables, dataelements, domains,view...etc. The rest of all the modified repository objects will be listed in SPAU.
What happens to the modifications done in the older version when we upgrade the version? (with Modification assistant and w/o)
After the initial upgrade happens, we have to do adjustments from SPAU/SPDD to maintain or reset the changes. That is, from the list of objects in SPAU/SPDD, you have to either carry forward the changes to the new version, by choosing the option ADOPT CHANGES (available on right click) or RESET TO ORIGINAL (available on right click).
Will they come in these transactions?
Yes, they will be listed in these transactions, after the BASIS updgrade activity.
And what if we apply some patches(Notes) to the system? What is the impact of these patches to the SPAU transaction?
Patches will be supported by the version upgrade. In case of notes, we have to verify whether these notes are supported by the new version (you can go into http://www.service.sap.com/notes to verify this. Also, we have to analyze whther the code in the note is already incorporated in the new version. In this case you can ignore the chanes choosing RESET TO ORIGINAL option

Difference Between Oracle Mount, No Mount and Open Stage

The differences in the 3 startup stages for oracle db are as below.
NoMount Stage:
When DB is in the nomount stage, oracle first opens and reads the initialization parameter file "init.ora" for the DB configuration which includes various parameters required for initialization. Based on the parameters, the memory areas in database instance are allocated and db background processes are started. The instance then starts.
Mount Stage:
When DB is in this stage, it opens and reads the control file which contains the physical structure of db  like the database datafiles etc.. It determines the location of the datafiles and the database is ready to be opened.
Open Stage
When DB is in this stage, it opens the database, it tries to access all of the datafiles associated with the database. Once it has accessed the database datafiles, it makes sure that all of the database datafiles are consistent.

After that DB is into normal operations state.

Parameter Recommendation for Oracle 10g

Before going through the below, you may try this note first to understand automated way to check recommended parameters and this is one of the best practise

SAP Note 830576 - Parameter recommendations for Oracle
10g

This note contains SAP's recommendations for the configuration of Oracle Database 10g.

This note contains SAP's recommendations for the optimal configuration of the Oracle database with Release 10g in SAP environments.

For Oracle Release 9i or lower, refer to Note 124361 and the notes referenced there.

Note that the recommendations given in this note may be changed. Therefore, we recommend that you check the latest version of this note once a month and make the necessary changes.

Previously, some parameter settings for the Oracle database (for example, for the cost-based optimizer) depended on whether your system was a normal R/3 system or a BW-based system. As of Oracle 10g, there is a uniform parameterization recommendation for all systems, which is described in this note. A few exceptions to this are indicated explicitly.

General recommendations

There are two types of parameters that should not be set in the profile:

1. Parameters that are never changed (except to analyze problems in diagnosis situations)
2. Derived parameters, which do not normally have to be changed since the Oracle server automatically calculates reasonable values for them

'Underscore' parameters and events are usually adjusted to a particular Oracle release. Therefore, after a database upgrade, you should delete this kind of parameter from the profile (exceptions are listed below). The DBUA does not remove this type of parameter.

You should delete obsolete initialization parameters from the profile. When you carry out a database upgrade with the DBUA, obsolete parameters are automatically removed from the SPFILE (if an SPFILE is used). When the instance is started, the Oracle alert log also informs you if obsolete parameters exist. The Oracle upgrade documentation provides a complete list of those parameters that are obsolete as of 10g. To determine which obsolete parameters are currently set, proceed as follows:

SELECT NAME FROM V$OBSOLETE_PARAMETER WHERE ISSPECIFIED = 'TRUE';

You should not set any parameters that are not explicitly mentioned in this note. Exceptions:

. The parameter is recommended as the solution or workaround for a problem in another note.
. The parameter is required for implementing an individual configuration (for example, multiple archiver destinations, check functions, special memory settings).

Further comments on parameterization:

. For detailed information about the maintenance of parameters with SFILEs, see Note 601157.
. If several EVENT parameters are specified in init.ora, they must appear in consecutive rows.
. You should not set parameters that are indicated with "Do not set!" and parameters that are not mentioned at all in the note (and for which there is no individual customer requirements). In this case, you use the Oracle default value, which then also appears in V$PARAMETER or in the ST04 parameter overview. This is the intended behavior. If you want to ensure that a parameter has not been explicitly set, you can enter the following query ( in lower case):

SELECT ISDEFAULT FROM V$PARAMETER2
WHERE NAME = ' ';
If this returns the TRUE statement, then the parameter has not been explicitly set.

. You can only optimize memory parameters and resource parameters such as DB_CACHE_SIZE or DB_WRITER_PROCESSES individually. Therefore, this note cannot give any general recommendations. However, you can determine options for optimization on the basis of a database performance analysis (see Notes 618868, 619188, 789011).
. The parameterization described below is directed towards the use of the features of the dynamic SGA (Note 617416) and the automatic PGA administration (Note 619876).
. refers to the value of the environment variable SAPDATA_HOME.
. Paths are given in UNIX syntax. On WINDOWS, you must replace the forward slashes ("/") with back slashes ("").
. The terms OLAP system and OLTP system have the following meaning:
OLAP system: These are systems with mainly BW functions (BW / BI, APO with mainly DP usage, SEM-BPS, BW-based SEM-BCS).
OLTP system: These are systems with mainly non-BW functions.
. Configure systems with a pure Java stack as you would an OLTP system.
. Configure double stack systems (that is, systems with both ABAP and JAVA stacks) as you would an OLTP or OLAP system, depending on degree to which you use BW functions (see above).

. In individual cases, if you have a system without OLAP, you can refrain from setting OLAP specific parameters such as STAR_TRANSFORMATION_ENABLED, _FIX_CONTROL or _INDEX_JOIN_ENABLED to avoid problems (for example, ORA-04031 due to _FIX_CONTROL, Note 997889) or to use functions (for example, index joins).

Solution
The standard parameter recommendations for Oracle 10.2 are listed below. They are equally valid for all SAP products. At the end of the list, we include specific recommendations for specific SAP or Oracle products. You must consider these as well as the Oracle 10.2 standard recommendations:

Attached to this note is an SQL statement that you can execute using the RSORADJV report, for example, (or alternatively using tools such as SQLPLUS), which automatically checks that the current parameter settings are correct. You can execute the command without changes for OLTP systems. For OLAP systems, you need to replace "" with "y" in both places.

NOTES ON THE RECOMMENDED PARAMETERS
*****************************************
BACKGROUND_DUMP_DEST
. Path for alert log and background trace files

COMPATIBLE
. Defines the Oracle version whose features can be used to the greatest extent
. As a rule, it must not be reset to an earlier release (see Note 598470).
. A value with three parts (such as 10.2.0) rather than five parts (such as 10.2.0.3.0) is recommended to avoid changing the parameter as part of a patch set installation.

CONTROL_FILES

. Path and name of the control files that are used

CONTROL_FILE_RECORD_KEEP_TIME
. Defines how many days historic data is retained in the control files
. Historic data is required by RMAN, for example.
. May cause control files to increase in size (see Note 904490)

CORE_DUMP_DEST
. Path under which core files are stored

DB_BLOCK_SIZE.
. Size of an Oracle block
. Can be set to a value higher than 8K in well-founded individual cases after it has been approved by SAP Support (see Note 105047)

DB_CACHE_SIZE
. Size of the Oracle data buffer (in bytes)
. Optimal size depends on the available memory (see Notes 789011 and 617416)

DB_FILES
. Maximum number of Oracle data files

DB_NAME
. Name of the database

DB_WRITER_PROCESSES
. Number of DBWR processes

EVENT
. Activation of internal control mechanisms and functions
. To set events in SPFILE, refer also to Note 596423.
. On Oracle 10.1, set the events for 10.1 in addition to, and not instead of, the events for 10.2.

FILESYSTEMIO_OPTIONS

. Activation of file system functions (see Note 999524 and Note 793113)
. If you previously used a large file system cache (>= 2 * Oracle Buffer Pool), the performance may get worse after you activated the direct I/O if you set FILESYSTEMIO_OPTIONS to SETALL. Therefore, it is important that you enlarge the Oracle buffer pool to replace the file system cache that is no longer available.

LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST
. Path/prefix for offline redo logs

LOG_ARCHIVE_FORMAT
. Name format of the offline redo logs
. To avoid the problems described in Note 132551, it must be explicitly set to WINDOWS at least.

LOG_BUFFER
. Minimum size of the Oracle redo buffer (in bytes)
. Oracle internally determines the buffer's actual size, so it is normal for "SHOW PARAMETER LOG_BUFFER" or a SELECT on V$PARAMETER to return values between 1MB and 16MB.

LOG_CHECKPOINTS_TO_ALERT
. Defines whether checkpoints are to be logged in the alert log

MAX_DUMP_FILE_SIZE
. Maximum size of Oracle trace files (in operating system blocks)

OPEN_CURSORS
Maximum number of cursors opened in parallel by one session

PARALLEL_EXECUTION_MESSAGE_SIZE
Defines size of the memory area for parallel query messages (in bytes)

PARALLEL_MAX_SERVERS
Defines the maximum number of parallel query processes (see Note 651060)

Based on the number of CPU Cores of the database server
If the database shares the server with other software (for example, SAP central instance, other Oracle instances), only the part of the CPU Cores that is mathematically available to the database should be considered in the calculation (for example, 8 CPU Cores, the SAP central instance and the Oracle database are to share resources 50:50 -> PARALLEL_MAX_SERVERS = 8 * 0.5 * 10 = 40).

PARALLEL_THREADS_PER_CPU
Defines the number of parallel query processes that can be executed in parallel for each CPU

PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET
Checks the available PGA memory (see Notes 789011 and 619876)

PROCESSES
Defines the maximum number of Oracle processes that exist in parallel
The component relating to ABAP work processes is only relevant in systems with ABAP stacks. The component relating to J2EE server processes is only relevant in systems with Java stacks.
indicates the maximum number of connections (also called pool size) of the J2EE system DataSource. You can set the value of this parameter using the VisualAdmin tool or other J2EE administration tools.

QUERY_REWRITE_ENABLED
Defines whether query transformations are also factored in when the access path is determined

RECYCLEBIN
Enables access later on to objects that have already been dropped
Not supported by SAP (see Note 105047)

REMOTE_OS_AUTHENT
Defines whether TCP database access via OPS$ users is allowed (see Note 400241)

REPLICATION_DEPENDENCY_TRACKING
Defines whether the system has to create replication information when the database is accessed
Performance improves if it is deactivated

SESSIONS
Defines the maximum number of Oracle sessions that exist in parallel - must be configured larger than PROCESSES, since single processes can serve several sessions (for example, in the case of multiple database connections from work processes)

SHARED_POOL_SIZE
Defines the size of the Oracle shared pool (see Notes 690241 and 789011)

STAR_TRANSFORMATION_ENABLED
Specifies to what extent STAR transformations can be used

UNDO_MANAGEMENT
Defines whether automatic undo management is used (see Note 600141)

UNDO_TABLESPACE
Defines the undo tablespace to be used (see Note 600141)

USER_DUMP_DEST
Path for trace files of Oracle shadow processes

_B_TREE_BITMAP_PLANS
Defines whether data of a B*TREE index can be transformed into a bitmap display within a database access

_OPTIM_PEEK_USER_BINDS
Defines whether Oracle takes the contents of the bind variables into account during parsing
May cause various problems (Notes 755342, 723879) if not set to FALSE.

_SORT_ELIMINATION_COST_RATIO
Controls rule-based CBO decision in connection with the FIRST_ROWS

hint and ORDER BY (Note 176754)

SAP systems Language installation on - Step by Step

The language environment that comes with the standard SAP installation includes German and English. To use SAP with other languages, you must perform a language import or supplement (use transaction SMLT). Changes in the language environment usually require changes in the codepage setup, which requires changes in some database tables and in the profile files

Before starting the language import, read the following SAP Notes on the SAP Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/notes

PREREQUISITES

To correct the language, you need to access the Support Package files. These files can be in several different formats:

• Transport requests

• EPS package in the EPS Inbox
• CAR or SAR archive in the tmp subdirectory of the transport directory
• Collection CD.

Make sure you are installing languages in 000 client. Once you installed languages you can not revert back.

First go to SMLT and check the installed languages, by default you find English and German.

First we need to Add the language in I18N to start with installation

Please to I18N tcode and click on System configuration

As per below screen shot please define the language code by clicking on add button
You can see the below screen for New NLS Configuraton activation
Click on  Yes to continue, Below scen will display
Now we successfully configured CS language, then execute the SMLT tocode
Click on Language create TAB, which is showing in above screen shot, Then it display the screen below
Select the language from General section language tab
Dont forget to mention suplementation language in Sumplementation section
Now you have succesfully saved the languge.

Go to the language which you want to install

Top of the screen you can see language -->Import Packages.

After you have specified a start time and (optional) target server, choose Execute to import the language package(s) you have selected.

The first three of these options are supported automatically. If you use a Collection CD to access Support Package data, you must specify the path to the CD.

Step: Searching for existing files at the operating system level.
To import Support Packages, you require data in the following form

- R3trans data file of the Support Package request, or

- the PAT file of the Support Package, or the CAR archive of the Support Package.

The tool first searches for R3trans data files in the data directory of the transport directory, followed by PAT files in the EPS Inbox (usually $(TRANS_DIR)/EPS/in), and finally CAR archives in the directory $(TRANSDIR)/tmp.
you have the option of searching for CAR archives in other paths. Enter a path and start the search. The system also searches for subdirectories, so that you only need to specify a single path to search a Support Package Collection CD.
Caution: When searching for suitable CAR archives, the system assumes that a CAR archive with the name Kxxxxxx.CAR contains the Support Package SAPKxxxxxx. This is always the case with SAPNet downloads and Support Package Collection CDs.

In the next dialog box, enter the path for the language packages. Choose Find Package(s) to search for any available packages in the path you have entered

Click Yes to continue the same.

An import action is created for the appropriate language on the overview screen of transaction SMLT. There are various functions in the overview for managing and monitoring the import.

Please check the above screen shot truck symbols shows that language import is running. you can check the corresponding logs and jobs by click on the options

i click on job monitoring, it displays the above screen.

After successful implementation you need to import the related support packs,

The green, yellow and red lights next to the packages indicate whether you can import them. Click the lights to display extra information.

A green light indicates that all import conditions have been met, a yellow light indicates that there are warnings, and a red light indicates that the package cannot be imported because checks have detected errors.
Select one or more language packages with green or yellow lights for import.

Import Language Content of Support Packages

PURPOSE

All Support Packages delivered by SAP have been translated completely. Support Packages can be used to deliver missing translations, or correct incorrect translations.

If you install a language after you have imported Support Packages into your system, you may have overwritten new Support Package translations with obsolete translations. The language is then inconsistent.

To correct the language data, you need to import the language part of the Support Package. This program supports you in this with the following functions:

• Check language data to see whether it is correct.

• Determine which Support Packages are in the system, and which Support Package translations need correcting.

INTEGRATION

To access this program, call transaction SMLT and choose Goto -> Other Tools.

Important: Not all required files need to be available at the same time. You can start the import with the first X files and then continue later with file X+1. A restart function is available for doing this.
Using the Program, go to SE38 and run the below report

Use the report RSTLAN_IMPORT_OCS to extract the language-relevant information from each support package

select the language which you want to do the import language support packages

Step: Selecting the Support Packages

All Support Packages are categorized with a traffic light as follows:

Green: No import is required for these Support Packages

Yellow: No import required

Red: Import required

All Support Packages with red lights are already selected. You can also select Support Packages with yellow lights (however, this is not normally necessary). Go to the next screen (F6). When you do this, the system searches for usable files in the file system.

Proceed to the next screen (F6).

Step: Starting the import

The import queue appears. Choose F6 to start the import process.

Step: Importing

All Support Packages are processed, one by one. The import is online, as in transaction SPAM. There should not be any timeout problems. The import of a Support Package involves the following steps:

• Copy the CAR archive to $(TRANS_DIR)/tmp, if necessary.

• Extract the CAR archive, if necessary. This creates a PAT file.

• Disassemble the PAT file, if necessary. This creates an R3trans data file.

• Import the R3trans file in special mode.

Files created temporarily by the import process (CAR archive in $(TRANS_DIR)/tmp, PAT files and R3trans files) are deleted as soon as possible to avoid overflows in the file system. However, large import logs are written to the log directory of the transport directory.
