Advanced Monitoring Overview in SAP Solution Manager

Overview

Advanced Monitoring is used for all use cases in System Monitoring where the template approach does not help, as the configuration differs largely between different Managed Objects.
For a specified Managed Object, Advanced Monitoring easily allows to:
  • Create several different Metric definitions
  • Simultaneously update different Metric values and thresholds
  • Test the Metrics by a direct call to the Data Provider on the Managed System
  • Create Incidents, Notifications, Third-Party Components, Auto Reactions for Alerting
  • Perform the Monitoring and Alerting Activation
Data are then automatically available in System Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure.
The following use cases are already available:
  • Oracle Tablespace Monitoring
  • ABAP Transaction Monitoring
  • File System Monitoring
  • URL Availability Monitoring
  • Exception Monitoring (fully integrated in the Exception Management Configuration of Root Cause Analysis Workcenter):
    • ABAP Short Dumps
    • ABAP System Log
    • ABAP Update Errors
    • ABAP Application Log
    • Log File Monitoring (non-ABAP)

Starting Point

  • Transaction GPA_ADMIN (except for Exception Monitoring):
    • Type: Guided Procedure
    • Application Area: Advanced Monitoring Configuration
