Note 1600929 - SAP BW powered by SAP HANA DB: Information

Summary
Symptom
You want to migrate your SAP Business Information Warehouse (BW) system to the SAP HANA database (DB).
You are using an SAP BW system with SAP HANA as the database.
You are looking for additional SAP Notes regarding SAP BW with SAP HANA as the database.
Other terms
Support Package, BW on HANA
Reason and Prerequisites
You receive the following SAP HANA appliance from an SAP hardware partner:
SAP In-Memory Platform Edition
or
SAP In-Memory Enterprise Edition
or
SAP In-Memory Extended Edition

You receive a preinstalled SAP HANA database with this hardware.
Solution
Ensure the following:
1) You are not using a dual stack system (ABAP and JAVA have the same master data ID (SID) in the same database). Any functions for splitting are provided using the dual-stack split tool in the Software Logistics (SL) Toolset.
For information about the SL Toolset and its release schedule, see the central note for the SL Toolset 1.0 (Note 1563579).
2) Support Package 06 or higher is imported for your SAP in-memory DB. We recommend to use the latest available revision from SMP

Only a standard installation and a distributed installation with a separate database server is supported. Other applications must not be installed on the database server apart from the preinstalled SAP HANA database (DB) and additional applications that it requires because these other applications may have a negative affect on performance. This also includes parts of the distributed central instance (for example, an application server must not be installed on the DB server).

SAP recommends you to always use the latest available revison of SAP HANA. At minimum we require HANA SP06 Revision 60.

Migration

Kernel Recommendation (minimum):
           720_EXT - Kernel
    • Patch Level(PL): 300
           721_EXT - Kernel
    • Patch Level(PL): 100
Information about Red Hat 5 can be found below.
Export:
Use your existing installation CD or DVD for the export. For the question with regard to the target database, select your source database in case that there is no entry for SAP HANA DB. This has no effect on the created files.
In the step "Confirm Report Execution", select "No, run the import of the target system without SQL files". After the export, create a subdirectory called <export>/ABAP/DB/HDB under your export directory. Then, start the report SMIGR_CREATE_DDL. Select SAP In-Memory Database with the additional parameter for the installation directory <export>/ABAP/DB/HDB.
If the report stops, move the file SQLFILES.LST from <export>/ABAP/DB/HDB to <export>/ABAP/DB.
Import:
For the import to the SAP HANA DB, use the newly delivered media.
Note that only the asynchronous file-based export/import method is available for the system copy (that is, socket mode, and ftp mode are not supported).

Detailed information about Migration /Systemcopy using SAP HANA DB with special view on performance improvements in R3Load: see note 1753759

Additional important SAP Notes and known problems:
-----
A dump occurs while uploading data via DTP on an SLS 11 SP1 Linux Server due to a wrong timestamp.
To correct this error, install Linux kernel version 2.6.32.19.
You can check which kernel version is installed on your system using the command "cat /proc/version".
-----
There is the following restriction with regard to the use of Embedded Search with TREX. At the moment this functionality is not released for the SAP HANA database. It is also not released if you want to have an existing TREX alongside it. However, we are working on a solution for this restriction.
-----
Please see note 1657994 for SP06 passwords for SPAM update.
-----
Please have also a look at note 1678047 COMPUTE_INT_PLUS_OVERFLOW during activation.
-----
ATTENTION! After Applying NW 7.30 SP09 / NW 7.31 SP07 you need to add the SQL privileges mentioned in note 1776186 to your SAP<SID> User on HANA if your ABAP System is running on kernel 7.21 and your HANA DB is distributed(scale out).

Prerequisite for installation when using latest Kernel media 51045124 (BW 7.30) or 51045125 (BW 7.31) containing optimized R3load:
-----

1) During installation you might recieve  following error in the dev traces of the application server during phase start instance:

C  invalid secure store entry, rc = -10104 (Invalid value for KEY(DEFAULT))
C  Try to connect via environment (localhost:7878) on connection 0 ...
C  *** ERROR => Connect to database failed, rc=1, rcSQL=-10709
(Connection failed (RTE:[89006] System call 'connect' failed,
rc=146:Connection refused))

If you encounter this situation please make sure that you update your HANA Client to rev >=38. Afterwards retry.

2) After installation/import of your system is finished successful please ensure that you update the kernel version of your system to at least 318. Otherwise you won't be able to upload any correction instructions via SNOTE.

Information relevant for SAP NW BW 7.30 on HANA

Please ensure that Support Package 07 or higher is imported for your SAP NetWeaver (NW) BW Installation (ABAP) before migration/ after installation. Please keep in mind that you have to apply SP06 which was only available for BW on HANA Ramp up customers. For your convenience we have created a note mentioning important notes after SP07: 1712334

SAP NW 7.30 BW on the SAP HANA DB uses the SAP kernel 7.20_EXT_REL by default. If you use the operating system RedHat5 for your application server, order the relevant kernel DVD using the material number 51042007 under the component XX-SER-SWFL-SHIP.

The following source databases are supported for the migration:
Oracle 11.2
IBM DB2 LUW 9.7
MaxDB 7.8
MS SQL server 2008
DB2 for i61, 7.1
DB2 for z/OS V9, V10
SAP Sybase ASE 15.7

Please check if the following tables are part of the row store in the SAP HANA DB before you start to implement Support Packages or other Add-Ons like Business Content, SEM or BPC to ensure a performant import:
DOKIL, TADIR, E070, E071, PAT01. VRSD and SMODILOG.
If the tables are nit in the row store you can use the SQL Tool which has been delivered with SAP HANA Studio to move the table within schema SAP<SID>:
alter table DOKIL row;
The tables can stay in the row store.
You can find alternative options and an exact description of the change process in SAP Note 1660125.
See SAP Note 1659383 for more information about which tables are located in the row store.
