Reason and Prerequisites
This note describes the necessary steps for already shipped SAP products on SAP Sybase ASE to update the delivered installation master media so that the installation process runs more smoothly. As of SWPM 1.0 SP1 for 70x based installations (SL Toolset SP6) this procedure is obsolete.

Solution

SAP Kernel

           The original kernel media for SAP Sybase ASE already contain the 720_EXT kernel, but with a patch level that is too low.
           A more current 720_EXT Kernel of at least patch level 210 and the newest SAP JVM can be provided during the installation process.
           - Download the newest version of Kernel 720_EXT, SAP JVM 6. 1 and SAPJVM 4.1 from SMP.
           - Choose installation type 'Custom' in the installer and provide the respective values (SAPEXE, SAPEXEDB, igs, igshelper, SAPJVM) during installation
           - Do not provide the 720_EXT version of SAPDIAGNOSTICSAGENT Update the SMD agent after installation as described in SAP Note 1671843.

Update the original Installation Master media for SAP Sybase ASE by exchanging the original control.xml with the one attached to this SAP Note, depending on the SAP release you plan to install.
To identify the SAP release and media, the following list contains the name of the file attached to this note; an abbreviated name for the SAP release and the corresponding Sybase-specific installation SAP Note.

BS 7i2010 on NW 7.02: control_51041592.xml (SAP Note 1606654)

Installation phase 'ABAP Import' fails immediately

Error:
An import log file created by R3load contains the following error message:

[ASE Error SQL30128:HY000]Data overflow. Increase specified column size or buffer size
(IMP) ERROR: ExeFastload: rc = 2

Analysis:
You use updated RDBMS media for the installation, for example, containing Sybase ASE 15.7.0.012. The ODBC driver 15.7.0.105 on these media requires a higher DBSL version than was part of the original delivery.

Solution:
Update the installation master and kernel media according to SAP Note 1716201.
Log on as user <sapsid>adm and unpack SAPEXE.SAR and SAPEXEDB.SAR of at least kernel version 720 EXT UC 64 pl 210 into the kernel directory:

/usr/sap/<SAPSID>/SYS/exe/run (Unix)
<Drive:>\usr\sap\<SAPSID>\SYS\exe\<codepage>\<platform> (Windows)

Push 'Retry' in the installer.
