Kernel Media 

              CAUTION:

              New Kernel / Java media has been added to the originally delivered installation packages for products supported by SWPM. If the new "SWPM Kernel/Java media" is available in software distribution center for your product, the installation / copy of that product is supported only by using the new media.

              NOTE:

              If the "Kernel for installation/SWPM" is not yet available in the installation package for your product, you search for the media on SMP by using the below mentioned media IDs.

1. Current latest 720 / 720 EXT kernel media labeled as "Kernel for installation/SWPM":

              Windows: 51046511 / 51046518 (EXT)

              Solaris: 51046508 / 51046517 (EXT)

              Linuxx86 and on Power: 51046510 / 51046516 (EXT)

              LinuxIA: 51046509 / 51046515 (EXT)

              LinuxzOS: 51046507 / 51046514 (EXT)

              HP-UX: 51046506 / 51046886 (EXT)

              AIX / IBM i: 51046507 / 51046513 (EXT)

              In case you install Developer Edition for SAP NetWeaver 7.3 (incl. EHP1), use a copy of the Developer Workplace DVD and adjust the LABEL.ASC file in Folder J_720_U_WINDOWS_I386 as follows:

a) According to the PAM, products based on SAP NW 7.31 must be installed using the 720_EXT kernel (the usage of the 720 kernel

b) According to the PAM, products based on SAP NW 7.03, must be installed using the 720_EXT kernel (the usage of the 720 kernel is not supported).

4. When using 7.40 kernel for SAP Business Suite on HANA based on SAP NetWeaver 7.4 SP2 or higher for an additional application server, copy the 7.40 Kernel Media and modify the LABEL.ASC files as follows:

6. In some Installation- and System Copy scenarios, an old R3load can cause problems. As a result, the database import fails and produces errors such as:

a) (TSK) ERROR: object <VIEW1> not in <CD_PATH>/SAPVIEW.STR

b) (TSK) ERROR: object <VIEW2> not in <CD_PATH>/SAPVIEW.STR

c) (TSK) ERROR: object <VIEW3> not in <CD_PATH>/SAPVIEW.STR

To avoid this, make sure that you apply (minimum) patchlevel as per SAP note 1802965 together with the the latest database library before running the import.

Java Media

SWPM*.SAR

           In general, the initially delivered JAVA media for your product can be used for SWPM based installations.

70SWPM*.SAR

           For the following products, the JAVA media labeled as "JAVA DVD for installation/SWPM" must be used for all SWPM based installations:

SAP products based on SAP NetWeaver 7.00 SR3

           The new JAVA media has been added to the originally delivered Installation package.

           The following products can be installed by using the originally delivered JAVA DVD:

Differences in profiles and file system strcuture between SAP NetWeaver 7.0x and higher releases.

File system structure

See SAP Note 1104735, for releases based on SAP NetWeaver 7.10, the directory structure was changed to support the heterogeneous system installations and updates more efficiently.

Caution: The SAP NetWeaver 7.10 or higher directory structure is not supported on systems based on SAP NetWeaver 2004s.

For manual switch, see the installation guide details about targeted file system structure and adjust your file system accordingly to avoid later issues for system transformation like system copy and system rename.

Profiles

See http://scn.sap.com/community/netweaver-administrator/blog/2012/05/22/whats-new-in-sap-netweaver-73 a-basis-perspective: As of SAP NetWeaver 7.3, Start Profile has been removed as separate file. In earlier versions of NetWeaver there were 1 Default profile per SAP system, 1 Start profile per Instance and 1 Instance profile per instance. Now the Start profile contents are merged with Instance profile. With help of new Instance profile SAP processes are started and at the same time instance specific parameters are read. This removed total number of profile files. 1 Default profile per SAP System, 1 instance profile per instance.

Caution: the merged profiles are not supported for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 including EHPs as it could lead to issues for system copy and system rename.

On Windows: Follow SAP Note 1528297 for the merge of profiles.

On UNIX: you concatenate instance profile and start profile entries and remove the start profile from the profile directory.

The ABAP import on Linux with SWPM 1.0 SP2 Kernel/Installer fails with
the following error message:
[ASE Error SQL208:42000]DBPROPERTIES not found. Specify
owner.objectname or use sp_help to check whether the object exists
(sp_help may produce lots of output).

The new linux ODBC driver version requires a dbsl with at least version 414 which is not part of SWPM 1.0 SP2 Kernel package.
Apply the solution described in SAP Note 1839218.

You can also use Software Update Manager and maintenance optimizer to install ERS on top of CE 7.1, if the restriction in SWPM is no longer valid.

SAP MaxDB: Installing SAP MaxDB

ABAP, ABAP+Java:

When installing SAP MaxDB, note that 70SWPM.SAR/SWPM.SAR will install SAP Kernel version 720 / 720_EXT. However SAP Kernel 720 requires at least version 7.7.04.09. of the MaxDB Client software (SQLDBC).
Patch your DB Client after the installation procedure has been completed successfully to at least version 7.7.04.09.

SAP NetWeaver 7.4: Automated Initial Setup of SAP NetWeaver 7.4 ABAP systems

After the installation of a new SAP system based on SAP NetWeaver 7.4 ABAP, you have to configure the system to enable its usage. For example, you have to install an SAP license, create logon groups, and configure the Transport Management System and security settings. Instead of performing these initial setup tasks manually, you can profit from an automated initial setup as follows:

1. Open ABAP Task Manager with transaction code STC01. Open task list SAP_BASIS_SETUP_INITIAL_CONFIG.

2. Select the tasks you want to get executed. For this, the task list offers sophisticated online documentation of the comprised activities.

3. Choose Execute.

4. Get guided through configuration process and enter required values.

5. Have your system configured in around five minutes.

If you plan to apply Support Packages after the installation, we recommend to perform the automated initial setup after applying the Support Packages.
